Pak SC Turns Down Lakhvi’s Plea Seeking Acquittal from 26/11 Case

Pakistan Supreme Court has turned down a plea moved by LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi seeking exoneration in Mumbai terror attacks case, said media reports.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry observed that Lakhvi could move higher courts after the case was decided by the anti-terrorism court, reports said.
Lakhvi is one of the seven Lashkar suspects being tried for their involvement in Mumbai attacks.
Government counsel Malik Rab Nawaz Noon said that the court didn’t agree with the argument of the defence counsel that confession statement of Amir Ajmal Kasab to Indian authorities had no value in Pakistani courts, said reports.
Moving the plea in a Rawalpindi-based anti-terrorism court, Lakhvi had sought his exoneration and the termination of criminal proceedings against him.
Lakhvi’s counsel had also asked the apex court to bar the anti-terrorism court and the prosecution from using Kasab’s statement against his client because it was recorded by an Indian magistrate.
In his confessional statement, Kasab had named Lakhvi as the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.
