People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehboob Mufti has been denied visa by Pakistan for attending a conference to be held in Islamabad from Monday.

Pakistani authorities have not given any official reason for denial of visa to Mehbooba whose PDP is the main Opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba, however, said that the security situation in Pakistan could be the reason for her not being considered for the visa.

She was scheduled to take part in a three-day conference to be organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute of Islamabad.

Authorities in the Pakistan High Commission, had earlier conveyed to Mehbooba that her papers had been sent to Islamabad, were silent on the matter.

Noted academician and former Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo was granted visa and he left for Islamabad on Saturday to attend the conference.

The PDP chief had visited Pakistan twice before and attended a Pugwash conference there in March last year.

She had also met Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Nawaz Sharif and now Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari during her visit.
