A top Pakistani official has said that the ban on social networking website Facebook has been lifted, reported AFP.

Najibullah Malik, secretary of the country’s information technology ministry, said that the Lahore High Court lifted the ban as Facebook removed a page which was encouraging people to draw image of Prophet Muhammad, report said.

He said that the website also tendered apology for the page, which was offensive to many Muslims who deem visual depiction of the Prophet as blasphemous, said report.

According to report, access to Facebook was still restricted till midmorning on Monday.

Malik said that government officials were waiting for a written court order before they advise Internet service providers to restore access to Facebook.
