Delhi hospital gives dead twins in packet to parents; one of them found alive while on way to crematorium

New Delhi: Another horrifying case has emerged in Delhi putting role of private hospitals under scanner. In the latest case, a baby was found by her parents to be alive after being declared dead by the hospital. The baby and its twin had been handed over to their family in a packet.

Media reports said that Pravin and his wife were taking their twins, declared dead at the Max hospital in Shalimar Bagh, for cremation on Thursday when to their utter shock, one of the babies was seen squirming. The family rushed to a hospital, where they were told that one of their twins was alive.

The babies were born on Thursday but soon the family was informed that one was dead and the other needed critical medical care, added the reports. The family was reportedly advised to keep the baby in the nursery, which meant a whopping bill. However, the parents were told that the second baby was also dead. Both babies were handed over to the family in a packet.

On their way to the cremation, one of the babies moved and was found breathing. The second baby is recovering in another hospital. Max says the doctor has been sent on leave. The hospital said the “premature baby” was handed over without any sign of life.

“We are shaken and concerned at this rare incident. We have initiated a detailed enquiry, pending which, the concerned doctor has been asked to proceed on leave immediately. We are in constant touch with the parents and are providing all the needed support,” said Max Healthcare in a statement.

The hospital faces an investigation by the Delhi police, which called it “a very shocking incident and the height of negligence”.
