North Korea Likely to Test Further Missiles: Report

October 13, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

North Korea seems to be readying itself for new missile tests, reported a South Korean news agency on Tuesday.

Citing an unnamed official in Seoul, the Yonhap agency reported that North Korea, following five rocket tests on Monday from country’s east coast, could go for further short-range rocket testes from west coast.

The information, however, was not confirmed by the South Korean military.

According to reports, the series of recent tests was possibly a part of military exercises aimed at bettering the country’s rocket technology.

North Korea has banned shipping from part of the sea near its east and west coasts until October 20.

Yonhap said that rockets tested on Monday were believed to be surface-to-surface missiles having a range upto 120 km.

It may be mentioned that communist North Korea’s army conducted a series of ballistic missile tests in early July, thus further raising tensions over its nuclear and missile programmes.

On that occasion, seven rockets with a range of 400 to 500 km were tested, the South Korean media reported.

North Korea recently announced its readiness to restart talks about its nuclear programmes.
