No War between India, Pak on Sharing River Waters

India’s Indus Waters Commissioner G Ranganathan has ruled out an Indo-Pak ‘war’ over differences on sharing of river waters, reported PTI.

Talking to reporters in Lahore, Ranganathan said that misconception between the two countries on sharing of waters would not reach a level that could result in war, said report.

Ranganathan was on a five-day visit to Pakistan to conduct routine inspections of water works.

In response to a query, he said that there should not be talk of war between India and Pakistan over the sharing of river waters, said report.

He said that the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, which covers the sharing of river waters, was ‘fully functional’ and that the Indian team came here to mitigate Pakistan’s concerns over water issues, said report.

Ranganathan also dismissed claims by certain sections that Pakistan has been resorting to ‘water theft’.
