June 14, 2010 Visionmp.com news service

Hours after the center announced plans to send in troops to end the blockade of a key highway by Naga activists, protest leaders after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, announced that they would end the embargo, for now.

Since April 12, the Naga groups since have blocked the main highway (NH 39) into the north-eastern state of Manipur, creating an acute crunch in the supply of essential goods there.

The blockade was in protest of the Manipur state government refusal to allow Naga separatist leader Thuingaleng Muivah to visit his birthplace.

With the blockade cutting off its main lifeline, Manipur has witnessed an acute shortage of food, fuel and medical supplies.
