Myanmar Court Delays Suu Kyi Verdict

July 31, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

A Myanmar court has postponed its verdict in a case accusing pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi of violating conditions of her house arrest last may, the decision was to be announced Friday.

While the judges attributed the delay to a legal snag that required to be addressed before the judgment, media houses say that the delay was due to the intense international attention focused around the National League for Democracy (NLD) leader.

The court will now deliver its decision on August 11.

Suu Kyi (64) has been on trial since May and faces up to five years imprisonment for the alleged violations.
