Mulayam Off Conduct Violation Hook

The Election Commission on Tuesday abandoned proceedings against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav whose party men allegedly distributed cash at a Holi Milan programme in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, the EC had earlier taken cognizance of the matter.

The watchdog commission had issued a notice to the SP chief after video footage showing SP men doling out cash were telecast by news channels, Mulayam Singh, however, maintained that handing out money during Holi festivities was customary in UP.

“The Commission has decided not to proceed further on the matter,” Deputy Election Commissioner R Balakrishnan told reporters.

Another matter involving Mulayam Singh’s alleged remarks against the Minpuri District Magistrate is still pending before the EC.
