The NSCN-IM general secretary and separatist leader Thiugaling Muivah has decided to defer his plan to enter Manipur and visit his hometown Ukrul, said media reports.

The leader said that he would wait till the central government assured him security, said reports.

The decision came following a meeting between Muivah and Nagaland chief minister Neiphu Rio.

Presently, the Naga leader is camping at a Nagaland-Manipur border village.

The news of Muivah’s visit had sparked clashes between his supporters and security forces in Imphal, in which 3 people died.

His party NSCN-IM wants Naga areas of Manipur to be part of a greater Nagaland which is strongly opposed by the people of Manipur.
Manipur government had banned Muivah’s entry to the state. That led to clashes between security personnel and Naga supporters in the town of Mao.

The protesters also sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s attention, saying that Muivah’s visit was finalised after consulting the Centre, said reports.
