Moily Calls for Reconsideration on Procedure of Judges Appointment

October 21, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

The Union Law Minister has called for reconsideration on judges’ appointment, stating that there will be no tainted judges.

Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said that only those having merit would be anointed as judges and that government could reconsider appointment procedure of judges.

It should be noted that minister’s statement came at a time when an apex court panel is yet to decide on the elevation of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Dinakaran to the Supreme Court.

Justice Dinakaran has corruption charges.

Affirming that no tainted person would be made judge, Moily said that a number of letters have been written to the Chief Justice of India and High Court chief justices to send names six months in advance for judges’ appointment.

In addition, the minister said that for adjudication of high-value cases above Rs 2 crores, commercial courts would be established to make India a good place to do business.
