Bhopal: According to initial reports an estimated 50 per cent voters cast their ballot in 16 Parliamentary segments of Madhya Pradesh during the Phase III of the five-leg polls for the 15th Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Speaking to correspondents in the state capital,  Chief Electoral Officer J S Mathur said that save a few stray incidents the polls were by and large peaceful.

Mathur suggested that a re-poll could be ordered in two polling stations of Sagar and one in the Morena LS segment, he said recommendations for the same had already been forwarded to the Election Commission which would take the final call on the matter.

The official further informed that the poll process was boycotted in some 28 poll booths in the state, he attributed the non-participation to the anger in local residents owing to non-redressal of their grievances.

Mathur confirmed reports of stray violence coming in from the Morena and Bhind parliamentary segments in the state.
