Maoist shot dead fours persons, including three of a family, virtually laying a siege on Ramban village in Bihar’s Naxal-hit Sheohar district midnight, said media reports citing police sources.

More than 200 armed rebels suddenly came into the village at around 11:55 pm, said reports.

They opened fire on four villagers, three of them belonging to same family and the last one their neighbour, killing them on the spot, reports said.

Villagers are suspected to have earlier killed Maoist cadre Virendra Shah and the rebels struck to take avenge for the killing, said reports.

The Naxalites left several leaflets on the spot claiming responsibility for the incident before fleeing, reports said.

An intensive combing operation has been launched in the area to apprehend the rebels.
