Suspected Maoists have kidnapped the son of a CPM leader in West Bengal and put forth a demand of releasing a jailed rebel in exchange for the boy, said media reports.

Armed rebels abducted Srimanta Tudu, 21, son of Matilal Tudu, from a bus stop last night at Binpur in West Midnapore district, said reports citing party and police sources.

Making a call at the victim’s residence later, they demanded the release of their ‘action squad member’ Durga Mandi from police custody in exchange for Tudu’s safe release, reports said.

Mandi was arrested for alleged involvement in several murder cases.
