With five Maoist-infested states being already on high alert, railway tracks were blown up in West Bengal by suspected rebels, in which two drivers of a goods train were injured and the freight train engine was destructed, said media reports.

The attack on railway track near Jhargram in West Midnapore district came on the second day of two-day shutdown called by Maoists.

Due to the blast, the train services on the Khoragpur-Tata Nagar section of South Eastern Railway were disrupted, reports said.

According to reports, the landmine exploded after the engine of the goods train passed over it at Khatkhura halt station.

A two-foot deep crater was created at the spot by the blast, said reports.

The long distance trains through the route were either diverted or halted at various stations since 2 am.
