Mamata Joins Opposition in Fuel Price Hike Protest, to Hold Rally

Miffed at fuel price hike, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has jointed hands with Opposition and has stormed off to Kolkata where her party will stage protest against the hike, reported CNN-IBN.
According to report, Banerjee is miffed with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee for taking away the tax exemption for Railways on goods transportation.
It may cost the Railways as much as Rs 6000 cr and hike up freight rates by six to seven percent, thoroughly derailing Banerjee’s please-all budget, report said.
Trinamool congress is going to take a rally in the protest on Saturday afternoon, said report.
“We are not happy with the increase of price of petrol. If they rollback their decision it will be appreciated by us. It affects the poor people,” Trinamool Congress MLA Sudip Bandhopadhyay was quoted as saying.
Expressing his party’s unhappiness with the duty hike on petroleum products, Bandhopadhyay was quoted as saying: “Our party responds for the interest of the people. We are planning to take a procession out in Kolkata at 2pm on Saturday.”
“This is the first time that there has been a service charge on the Railways, any type of the service charge affects the poor people. Mamata is trying her best to give transport to the poor people.”
