External Affairs Minister SM Krishna is believed to raise the issue of assaults on Indian students in Australia with his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith on the sidelines of a conference on Afghanistan in London, reported IANS.

In the his bilateral meeting with Smith, likely to be held on Thursday, Krishna will express concerns in India about spate of attacks on Indian students, which have been perceived as ‘racist’ in nature despite repeated disclaimers by Australia negating racism, said report.

Report said that Smith would update Krishna on the measures taken by the Australian authorities to check the attacks.

Following mounting outrage in India over the fatal stabbing of Nitin Garg, a 21-year-old Indian student, early this month, the Australian government recently handed over to India a police dossier of high-profile attacks on Indians over the past year.
