Koda Issue Reverberates in RS Ahead of Polling

Launching a frontal attack, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday questioned why arrest warrants were not issued against former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, despite his failure to honour summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money-laundering scam.

“Despite Koda ignoring the Enforcement Directorate’s summons, nothing is happening against him. Why not an arrest warrant is being issued as he failed to honour the summons,” questioned BJP secretary and Rajya Sabha member, Prabhat Jha.

“Koda should be arrested so that the names written in the diary found during searches by the Income Tax department are revealed,” said Jha while addressing the media in Ranchi.

The ED had issued separate summons to Koda on November 13, 15 and 19 asking him to appear before it.

Koda however responded to the summons with a letter stating his unavailability for questioning before the conclusion of the Assembly elections.

Five phased elections to the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly commence tomorrow morning (Nov. 25).

Meanwhile, the Koda-issue continued to reverberate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The upper house was adjourned till noon after the main Opposition BJP sought a discussion on the matter.

Demanding a discussion on the affair, BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said: “This is a very serious burning issue. There is massive fraud in Jharkhand, this requires the attention of the house.”

Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the house till noon as pandemonium prevailed in the house with Congress members shouting slogans and the BJP members rushing to the Chairman’s podium.

The house had earlier been adjourned over demands that the Ranganath Mishra Commission report on reservation for Dalits and Muslims be tabled in parliament.
