Karnataka Minister Steps Down after Losing By-election

After failure to be elected to state assembly in a by-election, Karnataka minister V Somanna has stepped down from the Yeddyurappa ministry.

After losing by-poll in Govindarajanagar constituency on August 18, Somanna handed his resignation to chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

It should be noted that he earlier held the seat as a Congress candidate but he had to vacate it after defecting to BJP.

“I will take a decision on accepting his resignation after consulting the state BJP chief D V Sadananda Gowda, national general secretary Ananth Kumar and the party high command,” Yeddyurappa told reporters after receiving the resignation letter.

RSS at its two-day southern region meet, which concluded at Davanagere yesterday, reportedly asked Yeddyurappa to seek the resignation of Somanna.

The chief minister said that he would decide later as to what position could be given to Somanna.
