Lakhs of hands raised for safeguarding women’s dignity

Bhopal: Lakhs of people belonging to all sections of society took out a candle march in all districts of Madhya Pradesh today and reiterated their commitment for safeguarding women’s dignity. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan led the march at Bhopal to launched Nari Samman Raksha Abhiyan. The march was taken out from Motilal Nehru Stadium and culminated at TT Nagar Stadium. A large number of people participated in it. The candle march for creating awareness regarding women’s dignity was taken out in all 50 districts of the state including Bhopal and 313 development block headquarters. Members of the state’s council of ministers led the candle march at several district headquarters.
Shri Chouhan administered pledge to people for remaining always ready to safeguard women’s rights. He administered the pledge to remain alert towards prevention of crimes against women and increasing awareness regarding it. He said that disrespect towards women will not be allowed in the state. Award worth Rs. one lakh will be given to those who safeguard women’s dignity.
Shri Chouhan said that there has been a tradition in India to worship and respect women since ages. Disrespect towards women in this country is a matter of concern. He said that woman was independent in ancient times. They commanded equal rights and equality with their male counterparts.
The Chief Minister said that disrespect towards women and girls will not be tolerated in any case. A database will be prepared in which information about those misbehaving with women will be stored. Such people’s driving licence, passport, visa etc will be cancelled. Government jobs and facilities will also not be provided to them. Recommendations have been sent on behalf of Madhya Pradesh to Justice J.S. Verma Committee that death sentence should be awarded to rapists. He said that arrangements have been made in the state to ensure maximum punishment to such culprits. He said that women power can give best contribution in nation-building. Society should change its mindset towards women and daughters. Women have also full rights to live life with dignity. Shri Chouhan urged people to boycott those who misbehave with women and give message to society that daughters are not weak.
Shri Chouhan exhorted people to always remain ready to make sacrifices for the country. Referring to dastardly attack on Indian soldiers recently, he said that 7.50 crore people of the state stand by families of martyr soldiers. He paid tributes to martyrs. Shri Chouhan said that now Madhya Pradesh has stood up to safeguard women’s dignity. This candle march and pledge taken here is a warning to people of perverted tendencies. He described rapists as monsters and stressed the need for such campaigns to prevent such heinous crimes.
Thousands of people belonging to various sections of society, school and college students, distinguished citizens and public representatives participated in the candle march and reiterated their commitment towards women’s dignity. The candle march concluded to TT Nagar Stadium during which slogans for women’s rights and dignity like “Nari Ke Samman Mein-Madhya Pradesh Maidan Mein’ and “Maa-Beti Ka Apman-Naheen Sahega Hindustan” kept reverberating.
Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta, MP Shri Kailash Joshi, Rajya Sabha Member and State BJP President Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Bhopal Mayor Smt. Krishna Gaur and Bhopal BJP President Shri Alok Sharma were also present on the occasion.
