India Proposing Talks One Year after Threatening Attack: Qureshi

Continuing his anti-India rhetoric, Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that India is proposing talks with Pakistan a year after it threatened to attack the country, said media reports.

Addressing a gathering in Multan on Monday, the minister was quoted as saying: “They were preparing for an attack on Pakistan. Today, after one year, those who were making threats about attacking Pakistan following the Mumbai incident, those same forces are sending Pakistan an invitation for talks.”

“This turnaround had occurred due to national solidarity and a pledge to keep moving forward with the same spirit for development of Pakistan,” Qureshi was quoted as saying.

This statement followed an earlier claim by Qureshi that it was Pakistan that forced India to talk and not the other way around.

“Pakistan hasn’t knelt… It didn’t kneel. Pakistan held its ground,” Qureshi had said on Sunday.

It may be mentioned that the foreign secretaries of the two countries are expected to meet later this month as a part of a new confidence building measure.
