Shutdown On in Baramulla against Boy’s Killing, 5 Injured in Clash
At least five people were injured in a clash between locals, who were protesting the killing of a 12-year-old, and police in Baramulla, situated in North Kashmir.
In protest of the killing of the boy, a complete shutdown continued in the town for the fourth consecutive day and shops, business establishments, educational and semi-government institutions remained closed and traffic off the roads in the town.
The clash resulted when score of people defied prohibitory orders and attempted to paraded towards main chowk in the town, which police prevented. The agitators were insisting on action against the policemen allegedly responsible for the killing of Irfan Ahmad Lone, a Class VII student, in a tear gas shelling on Friday last.
It may be mentioned that in a demonstration staged to protest against continued house arrest of hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Irfan was killed and four others were injured when police used lathicharge and fired tear gas shells.
While police claimed that the boy died of a heart attack, locals alleged that he was hit by a teargas shell on his head.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and inquiry officer Mohammad Ashraf Shuntoo has asked people having knowledge about the incident to record their statements before him till October 10.
