Honour Killing: Couple Shot Dead in Punjab

In a latest case of honour killing, a newly married couple was on Tuesday shot dead in full public view at Patti village near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, said media reports.
The couple, which has been married for a few months, has been living in Firozpur, some 200 kms form the village and even has police protection.
However, Prabhjot and her husband Sandeep were shot allegedly shot dead by her family members, while she was going to writer her 12th board exams.
“This incident should not have happened. It’s sad. But the individual’s behaviour was not correct. He had left his first wife and has a child. He married his wife’s niece. It is a case of personal enmity. A number of cases were registered against him. The girl is from the same family. We will round up those involved soon,” Sukhdev Singh Brar, SSP, Firozpur, was quoted as saying.
