Govt Seeks Report on Online CAT Exam Status

With confusion over the Common Admission Test (CAT) for institutes of management and business schools still prevailing, the government has sought a status report on the failure of online CAT exams.

Regarding disruption of the computer based exams, the HRD Ministry asked for the report from the Convener of CAT.

The report has to be submitted at the earliest by a professor from IIT Kolkata, who is in charge of the online exam.

It may be mentioned that the morning slots at IMS Ghaziabad and Bangalore were cancelled on Monday without any notice from the authorities on day three of the exam.

In the meantime, IIMs and Prometric, the American company that has designed the computer-based examination, are trying to solve the issue. Prometric has blamed a virus attack on the technical glitches.

Being conducted online for the first time, CAT ran into trouble for the third consecutive day when a computer crash stalled the exam at centres in three cities.

The CAT exam, which determines admission to the country’s prestigious IIM and other business schools, went online for the first time on Saturday, but several students had a harrowing time when computers crashed in around 40 centres across the country on the first and second day.
