With Pakistan in the grip of terror, the government on Tuesday advised Indian pilgrims to refrain from undertaking a tour of that country in view of deteriorating security situation there.

Scores of Sikh pilgrims visit Pakistan around Guru Nanak Jayanti, which will be observed on November 2 this year.

“The Government of India is of the view that it is not advisable for the Indian pilgrims to visit Pakistan in the prevailing situation when frequent terrorist attacks are taking place in Punjab province of Pakistan, where all gurudwaras are situated,” said a statement issued by the home ministry.

“Accordingly, the Government advises all Indian citizens to avoid undertaking any visit to Pakistan for this purpose, till the security situation in Pakistan improves.”

In Pakistan, recent terror attacks have killed some 200 people in strikes at various locations including the country’s Army Headquarters in the garrison town of Rawalpindi on the outskirts of its high security capital Islamabad.
