Obstructions posed by party legislators and requests from allies Congress notwithstanding, an emotional Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister – Omar Abdullah — stormed out of the state Assembly and submitted his resignation to Governor NN Vohra on Tuesday.

Though, no official confirmation is available, a report on the Times Now TV website said that Governor Vohra has accepted Omar’s resignation.

Earlier in the day, an emotional Omar an announced his decision to quit after Peoples’ Democratic Party member – Muzzaffar Beig alleged that Omar was involved in a 2006 sex scandal.

Several members of the National Conference, which Omar heads, attempted to block his way as an emotional Omar stormed out of the Assembly to put in his papers to Governor Vohra.

Several top leaders of allies Congress, including AICC in-charge for J&K Prithviraj Chavan and Saifuddin Soz urged the young leader to refrain from the emotional decision and termed the PDP allegations as a trap.

Omar (38) was sworn in chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir in January and his term lasting less than seven full months may go down as the shortest in the history of the state.
