Baghel wins heart through tweet on power-tariff slash

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday won a few hearts by replying to a tweet from an apparent BJP supporter on power tariff cut.

Baghel, in a rare gesture, replied to a tweet from a youth from Bilaspur, who had several ‘chowkidars’— a terminology used these days to refer to BJP leaders— as his follower.

He had questioned Baghel as to why his electricity bill was not slashed to half as promised by the Congress before the Assembly elections.

Bhupesh in his reply wrote: “Ashish ji our government has slashed the power tariff to half and people of Chhattisgarh will avail its benefit from April 1. If your power bill is not reduced or if there are some slipups, then do tell me, I will be in service. Thanks.”

The ‘twitteratis’ liked the Chief Minister’s gesture and most of them hailed him. The Chief Minister’s tweet received 1,700 likes 500 re-tweets and 148 comments within a few hours.

Slashing the power tariff was one of the major promises featured in the Congress party’s ‘Janghosahan Patra’ before the State Assembly elections. Congress had managed to win the 2018 assembly elections with thumping majority. The party that was out of power in Chhattisgarh for past 15 years managed to bag 68 seats in the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly.

The social media experts viewed the CM’s tweet as an intelligent use of the social media platform while promoting party’s interest at a time when model-code of conduct for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 is in force.
