With October 13 dateline for assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh drawing near, the Election Commission (EC) has issued directives to its observers to fix a specific time every day for hearing complaints of public and political parties.

In a directive to the 510 election observers to these states, the EC said that every observer should fix a time schedule, preferably between 4 pm to 5 pm, to hear and redress grievances and complaints of the people and political parties.

The EC, in its directive, further said that time slot and location should be well published through local newspapers.

The observers must ensure their availability except for such occasions when it was not possible for reasons of compelling and immediate nature, it said.
