Instructing the Allahabad High Court on Mayawati statue case, the Supreme Court has asked it to dispose of within four months a batch of writ petitions challenging the constitutional validity of UP government’s decision, reported PTI.

Mayawati government is constructing memorials and statues of Dalit icons at a cost of Rs 2600 crore.

While giving the instruction, a bench comprising Justices H S Bedi and A K Patnaik however allowed the state government to carry out minor maintenance work at the site where all construction activities were stayed earlier, said report.

There are several cases against the UP Chief Minister for using tax payers’ money to create these parks, some of which are being heard by the Allahabad High Court, while the apex court is hearing a separate petition.

Mayawati had asked that all cases be clubbed together in the Supreme Court.

The apex court dismissed the plea.
