Curfew Continues in Hyderabad, Police to Review Situation Today

Curfew continues in 25 police station areas of Hyderabad where fresh communal clashes took place yesterday with one more person being killed, said media reports.

The toll in the violence which started Saturday went up to two when a youth was stabbed to death in the Karwan area on Tuesday. Over 150 people were injured in the violence, which began after a dispute over religious flags.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan has said that curfew could be relaxed for two hours on Thursday morning in the 25 police station areas of the city, said media reports. He said that the relaxation would be given only if no untoward incidents were reported till Wednesday night though city remained peaceful till noon.

Police Commissioner AK Khan said that situation would be reviewed later on Wednesday and after that any decision on relaxing curfew would be taken, reports said.

Apart from death of the youth, several others, thee of them policemen, were injured in yesterday’s violence.

Among them, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Ravi Verma, who was injured on Tuesday night in stone pelting by miscreants at Seetarambagh in Asifnagar.

In addition, large-scale violence was seen during a Hanuman Jayanti processions in Musheerabad, Bholakpur, Mangal Hat and other areas with rioters attacking houses and setting afire dozens of vehicles.

The permission given by police to take out processions despite prohibitory orders has come under attack from various sections of people.

Nearly 5000 security personnel are deployed in the Old City alone to prevent miscreants from creating trouble.
