CPM Ends up Loser in Kerala Infighting

July 14, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

Following CPM central committee’s decision to oust CM VS Achuthanandan from the politburo for violating party discipline, the hate and distrust has further emerged on the surface from the cadre across Kerala rather than putting an end to the ongoing infighting. The diktat is being seen as biased against Achuthanandan while leaving state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan untouched.

Prakash Karat, by ignoring voices of protest from the Bengal group led by Sitaram Yechury and pushing ahead with the resolution, has lost his credibility in this red citadel with many questioning efficacy of this one-sided judgment. It is considered that Kerala voters, along with party activists, had expected a decision leashing both Achuthanandan and Vijayan thus putting a full stop to factionalism.

Besides, party’s image as an anti-corruption outfit has also suffered by benefiting Vijayan who is an accused in graft scam.

“CPI-M was having an image of an anti-corruption party. But in this corruption (SNC Lavalin scam) it was proved that even the national leadership of CPI-M is involved in corruption,” said C Neelakandan, a Left thinker from Cochin.
