Congress Welcomes Rahul Foray into Crumbling Left Bastion

Though his forays into Dalit Uttar Pradesh have come in for stringent attacks from Mayawati, Rahul Gandhi’s maiden entry into the crumbling Left bastion – the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) — on Tuesday evening, came in for a rousing applause from party ranks on Wednesday.
“Last night, Rahul Gandhi addressed the newly constituted unit of NSUI at JNU. It’s an excellent example of youths’ participation and youth’s vibrancy in politics,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, speaking to correspondents in New Delhi.
Singhvi said that this should be seen as part of the larger movement that is resulting in the convergence of the youth movement with the Congress movement and termed the programme as “an example of great energy and euphoria”.
“A large number of students, not members of NSUI also participated in the programme. It’s a constructive approach that should be replicated across the country,” he added.
