Cong – TC Win Siliguri Civic Body Polls

Meting out yet another crashing blow to the CPI(M) – led ruling coalition in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TC) – Congress alliance registered 29 wins in the Silguri Municipal Corporation elections to annex control of the 47-member bard after a gap of 27 years.

The TC won 14 segments while the Congress notched 15 while the victory of an independent, backed by the partners, took the total tally to 30.

The TC had contested 24 seats while the Congress fielded 23 candidates in the elections held last Sunday.

The ruling Left Front alliance in the state, which earlier had 36 members, could only manage to win 17 segments,

Among the Left Front allies, the CPI-M won 15 seats while allies Forward Bloc and RSP registered victories in one segment each.

While the Opposition notched major gains, from an earlier tally of 11, the BJP which had one member in the board failed to open its account this time around.

The biggest upset came in shape of outgoing deputy Mayor Dilip Ray, who failed to earn re-election.
