CM declares Burhanpur with 100 percent tap water

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new chapter is being written in Madhya Pradesh under the Jal Jeevan Mission by effectively implementing the scheme of providing water through taps to every household.

Burhanpur district has become the first district in the state where water has reached every household of the rural population through the Jal Jeevan Mission. Chouhan also extended his best wishes to the people of the district for this accomplishment.

The Chief Minister was addressing the Jal Mahotsav organized in Kharkod village of Burhanpur district under the Jal Jeevan Mission on the occasion of the declaration of 100 percent rural population being nal se jal yukt. Chouhan said that to save the gift that Burhanpur has got today, water conservation is also necessary along with saving water. With this, the water sources of the scheme will remain alive, only then the schemes of drinking water will be continue to run. He said that for a long time, ground water was being harnessed through wells and hand pumps.

Today the time has come that we all have to work together to increase the ground water level. Only when the water sources are maintained can cultivation be possible and our thirst be quenched. He called upon the people of the state to save every drop of water by making the work of water conservation and water promotion a mass movement.

Chouhan said that Jalabhishek campaign will be launched in the state for water conservation from the month of April. In this, water structures like ponds, check dams, stop dams will be constructed by involving public participation with MNREGA. With this, we will be able to ensure the availability of water for the coming generation and will also make them aware of water conservation. He said that on a call by Prime Minister Modi, a resolution has been taken to build 75 ponds in every district. In this work, the people of Burhanpur should come forward and set an example for the country by getting the ponds constructed first.

The Chief Minister said that the women of this area are so happy today that they have written 11 thousand letters of best wishes to Prime Minister  Narendra Modi for getting tap water in their houses. The Chief Minister said that today my happiness knows no bounds, my mind is full of joy. I am happy to know that women self-help groups have also taken up the work of operation and maintenance of water supply schemes of the village.  Chouhan said that during the Kalash Yatra taken out today, women shared their past experiences and said that their maximum time was spent in the arrangement of drinking water. But now with tap water supply, their problems have been solved.

Chouhan said that government in Madhya Pradesh stands for the poor. Many schemes are being run for them. The work of providing food, shelter, medicine, education and employment to the poor is being done at a fast pace. Free ration is being distributed in the state under Pradhan Mantri Anna Yojana and Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana. Under the Ayushman scheme, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh is being provided, employment fairs are being organized for the youth and free housing is being provided to every poor. The schemes that were discontinued by the previous government are being revived. Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana and Teerth-Darshan Yojana are being started from the month of April. Now under the Kanya Vivah Yojana, Rs 55,000 each will be given by the state government for the marriage of girls.

Chouhan said that if I am a good person and true in your eyes, do keep supporting me by saving water, planting trees, celebrating village Pride Day, running Anganwadis and schools, maintaining cleanliness and respecting women.

In the Jal Mahotsav, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan distributed benefits to the beneficiaries of various schemes. In Jal Jeevan Mission, he e-launched 945 schemes worth Rs 474.01 crore and distributed post matric scholarships worth Rs 3.81 crore to backward class students. In Burhanpur, works worth Rs 53 crores were dedicated in Catch the Rain and performed bhoomi-pujan of works worth 42 crores. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan released the book of Jal Jeevan Mission and Project Abhyudaya card in Burhanpur.

Additional Chief Secretary Shri Malay Srivastava informed about the progress of activities of Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that in Burhanpur district, the target of providing tap water to every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission has been accomplished before the stipulated time. In Burhanpur district, arrangements have been made to provide pure drinking water to the villagers residing in 504 settlements of 254 villages of 167 gram panchayats at a cost of Rs 129 crore. More than 5 lakh villagers of more than one lakh families of rural areas in the district will get pure drinking water. 72 CC water tank has been constructed under Jal Jeevan Mission (Rural). In addition to 641 schools and 549 anganwadis in rural areas, arrangements have been made to supply water to 56 hostels.

In-charge of Burhanpur district and Minister of Animal Husbandry and Social Justice Shri Prem Singh Patel, Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Shri Brijendra Singh Yadav, MP Shri Gyaneshwar Patil, MLAs, public representatives and a large number of villagers were present in the function.
