Chidambaram Apprises MPs of Strategy to Deal with Naxals

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday convened a meeting of parliamentarians belonging to 33 Naxal-affected districts and apprised them of government strategy, especially development schemes, seeking their cooperation in the task to deal with the menace, reported PTI.

Chidambaram and other top officials briefed the MPs about the severity of the Naxal problem and informed them of the measures government is taking to tackle the Maoism, said report.

“Planning Commission had given a presentation to the MPs about development schemes. Focus is entirely on flagship programmes of Government of India as implemented in the districts,” Union Home Secretary, Gopal K Pillai, was quoted as saying after the nearly two-hour long meeting.

Some of the 20 participating Parliamentarians also spoke about the problems in their respective areas and offered their help in implementing development schemes.
