Chavan Resigns, Guv Asks him to Continue till Swearing-in

Ahead of his oath-taking for a second term as executive head of the state, Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan has tendered his resignation to Governor SC Jamir.

Re-elected as leader of the Congress-NCP combine legislature party following its win in the recent assembly polls, Chavan tendered his resignation on behalf of the council of ministers, said media reports.

Accepting his resignation, the governor asked him and his cabinet to continue in office till the swearing-in was conducted.

Following election of legislature party leader of NCP later today, Chavan will stake claim to form the next government.

During his meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Mumbai Congress President and former Minister Kripashankar Singh.
