The Central Government could consider the inclusion of Bhopal, Jabalpur and Rewa to the solar city programme, said Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farookh Abdullah in response to a missive, seeking such a move, sent to him by UAD Minister Babulal Gaur.

The Central Government has selected 60 cities, including Gwalior and Indore, for the Solar City initiative that aims to bring down the consumption of traditional electricity at these centers by promoting solar power as a cost effective and environment friendly alternative.

Gaur, however, thought that just two cities from the Stazte were not inkeeping with the size of the state and has been seeking the inclusion of the other three cities.

The programme, which is to be implemented by civic bodies, utlises a fund o Rs 50 lakh paid by the centre in four installments.

Only cities with a population of over five lakh qualify for the Solar City initiative.
