The central government has advised all state governments to remain on high alert on the eve of 17th anniversary of Babri mosque demolition, cautioning that some misguided elements might try to disrupt communal peace and harmony in the country.

“Hence, all state governments have been advised to remain on high alert. Security forces will be deployed for maintaining law and order in sensitive places,” the Home Ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that government wishes to appeal to all sections of the people to maintain communal peace and harmony on the eve of December 6.

“The year 2009 has been remarkably free of any communal conflict. All religious festivals were celebrated peacefully. People from all walks of life participated in the celebrations. It is the Government’s desire that this exemplary sense of unity and fraternity should prevail in the remaining part of the year as well as in the future,” it said.

The statement also said that it hoped that all sections of the people would pay heed to its appeal and cooperate with the Centre and the state governments to uphold peace and harmony.
