A day after the Right to Education became operational, West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has raised objections to certain provisions of the Act and written to the HRD ministry in the regard, reported PTI.

“Chief Minister has written to Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal raising objection to certain provisions,” School Education Minister Partha Dey was quoted as saying.

Dey said that state government opposed the provision that the policies and directives would be given by the Centre, but the onus of the implementation of the Act would be fully on the state, report said.

The government also pointed out that the Act provides for ‘adequate infrastructure for the schools, funds for it may not be available’, said report.

Yesterday, Dey said that the government didn’t enjoy sufficient control over private schools to force them to reserve quota of seats as laid down, report said.

“We are, however, committed to implementing the positive provisions of the statute,” Dey was quoted as saying.
