The BJP has charged Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj with ‘excessive interference’ in the administrative affairs in the state, pinning him as the ‘problem’ for putting the state and the rulig BJP in news for ‘all wrong reasons’, said media reports.

“The Governor is the problem. Constitutionally, he has exceeded his limits,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Seetharam was quoted as saying while talking to reporters in Chennai.

She said that the party has been troubled by illegal mining of iron ore in Bellary and the alleged involvement of cabinet ministers, the Reddy brothers, in the mining, the issue which Congress and the JDS took up and on which even stalled the Assembly proceedings, reports said.

She alleged that ‘excessive interference’ by the Governor in the matter had ‘aggravated’ the issue, said reports.

“Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had assured of action (into illegal mining) and the Lokayukta is looking into it,” she was quoted as saying.

Refraining from making remarks on the role of Reddy brothers in the entire issue, she said that Lokayukta was investigating the case and also denied that the issue had resulted in any ‘crisis’ in the party in Karnataka, reports said.

“There may be problems (in party and government) which is common to all. But there is no crisis,” she was quoted as saying.
