Kings XI Punjab defeat Mumbai Indians in historic second Super Over after match and first Super Over end in tie

Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh accounted for two wickets apiece, with English pacer Chris Jordan completing one dismissal

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) triumphed over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a second Super Over after both the match and the first Super Over were tied for the first time in an IPL match.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians (MI) posted a total of 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat. Quinton de Kock was the highest run-scorer, smashing 53 runs off 43 deliveries in an innings comprising three boundaries and as many sixes. De Kock enjoyed quality support from Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile who chipped in with valuable knocks adding 54 runs in the last three overs.

Skipper KL Rahul led KXIP’s chase, till there was a run out off the last ball of the 20th over to take the game into a Super Over. There was a run out off the last ball of the Super Over too, with both teams scoring 5, and there was a second Super Over. Mayank Agarwal hit the winning runs for KXIP in the second tie-breaker. Jasprit Bumrah and Shami bowled for Mumbai and Punjab respectively in the first Super Over. Trent Boult and Jordan were the bowlers for MI and KXIP respectively in the second Super Over.
