BJP again demanded ‘Bharat Ratna’ for Atal Bihari Vajpayee

December 26, 2010 Visionmp.com news service

On Saturday Atal Bihari Vajpayee turned 86, the BJP revived its demand for conferring Bharat Ratna (the highest civilian honour) on the ailing former Prime Minister. It was a suggestion first made by L K Advani nearly three years ago.

In the year 2008 when L K Advani had made this demand, he had send a suggestion letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but the UPA I virtually dismissed it, pointing out that such issues can’t be discussed in public.

Former BJP president Rajnath Singh, said, “The country can never forget Vajpayee’s contribution to parliamentary democracy. Therefore, I humbly request the government to honour him with the Bharat Ratna.” Several leaders like Shahnawaz Hussain and Rajiv Pratap Rudy echoed him.

Interestingly now the demand comes at a time when the BJP and the Congress are in a bitter mood war due t the case of the 2G spectrum scam.
