Be Ready to Quiz Headley, US to India

March 22, 2010 Visionmp.com news service

The US Department of Justice has asked India to be prepared for sending over a team that will have access to Pakistani-born American national David Coleman Headley and interrogate him about Mumbai terror attacks, said media reports

Last week, Headley consented to a plea deal under which he will not be extradited to India or face death penalty.

The US, however, guaranteed India that its investigators would get access to Headley and would be able to quiz him.

Following his guilty plea on Thursday, India was worried whether Headley would merely testify in its 26/11 inquiry as opposed to being interrogated.

In a phone call over the weekend, US Attorney General Eric Holder told Chidambaram that India can question Headley.

Reports said quoting unnamed sources that the government team would be ready in a day or two.
