Australia Will Track International Students: Gillard

With number of Indian students applying for study visas coming down, Australian Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard has said that the government will track foreign students coming to study in the country, said reports.
“The Australian government will track the number of students coming to this country, including Indian students,” Gillard was quoted as saying by IANS.
The number of Indian students applying for study visas to Australia came down by 50% and that of overall international students by 25% leading to fears about county’s $17 billion international education industy.
“Obviously we are going to track the number of students coming to this country, including Indian students, as we are moving into the new academic year,” Gillard was quoted as saying.
She noted that it was significant for students to know the accurate information while they take a decision to study in Australia.
“I can understand that if you were a family in India and you were sending your young person to some other country that you would be very, very focused on how safe they are going to be when they were there.
“This is why we have to try and get the message through that overwhelmingly Australia is a very safe place,” AAP quoted her as saying.
Gillard emphasized that the officials had taken measures to make sure that Australia continue to offer quality education to international students.
