Air India (AI) engineers have gone on a flash strike in protest against gag order issued by management, said media reports.
The AI had issued a show-cause notice to engineers for talking about Mangalore crash to media persons.
The move came in the wake of a TV channel report that cabin crew on the ill-fated AI Express plane were forced to fly against their will and of the those forced was a roommate of air hostess Sujata Survase, who died in Saturday’s crash.
According to reports, nearly five cabin crew operating on the route were threatened with criminal cases in the event they refused to comply with the order to fly.
Chief Operations Officer Ritesh Verma reportedly pressurized them to undertake the duties, reports said.
However, Air India Chairman Arvind Jadhav issued a statement denying any harassment of cabin crew, said reports.
As many as 700 engineers, most of them workers of the erstwhile Indian Airlines, are involved in the strike, reports said.
Air Corporation Union of loaders cleaners and other staff are also likely to join, said reports.
